Newborn sickle-cell screening drive

Medium
Early sickle cell disease screening & intervention

The Sickle Gene Action Foundation (SGAF), based in East Legon, Accra, works to improve the lives of children born with sickle cell disease through newborn screening, early diagnosis and early intervention. Across sub-Saharan Africa many children with the condition die before their fifth birthday, often because it is caught too late. Under its “Early Action Saves Lives” campaign, SGAF funds screening, education and family support. This is the Foundation's own programme; contributions help extend newborn screening to more Ghanaian families.
