Give blood, save lives appeal

Ghana needs more than 300,000 units of blood every year but collects far less — around 200,000 — leaving hospitals repeatedly short when patients need transfusions for childbirth, surgery, accidents, sickle cell crises and cancer. The National Blood Service relies heavily on family-replacement donors and issues crisis appeals for specific blood types. Under the theme “We live because you give”, it urges healthy people aged 17 to 60 to become voluntary donors and runs the mobile drives that keep the blood bank stocked. This is a call for donors as much as funds — pledge to give blood, and contributions help run donation drives.
